About Us

The Deal and Walmer Handelian Society was established in 1946 by three co-founders: Dr James S Hall, the well-known Handelian scholar and Lifeboat surgeon, his wife Cynthia, and Ernest Stride who was Keyboard Professor at the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal. We are located on the South East coast in Deal and Walmer, two towns who are interlinked both by their location and their history.

Our concerts are usually held in the beautiful early 18th century St. Georges Church in the centre of Deal although we have sung in St Mary’s Church in Walmer which is located high on the hill behind Walmer Castle.

We rehearse in Walmer on a Monday evening 7.15 pm -9.00pm at the Parochial School on Gladstone Road CT14 7ER There is plenty of parking and a warm welcome.

Repertoire

The Deal and Walmer Handelian Choral Society is a choir of all ages and voices; what brings us together is an enjoyment of singing sacred and secular music from a range of composers, classical and modern. We aim to perform three times a year and choir rehearsals are focused on these performances.

Whilst the original object of the Society was to perform Handel’s works, its repertoire has expanded over the years to include the works of other composers.
